BUSINESS STATUS
Prairie Wind Animal Refuge is a 501(c)(3) corporation and was granted federal non-profit status in August of 1993. The Refuge is funded entirely through donations of money, food, materials and labor from individual sponsors, corporate sponsors, school groups and clubs. All proceeds and efforts are dedicated to the care of the animals as well as the maintenance and upgrading of the enclosures and habitats. The Executive Directors, Joan Laub and Peter Winney live on site.
LOCATION AND LICENSING
The Refuge is located east of Kiowa, Colorado about 75 minutes drive east of Denver. We are licensed by the State of Colorado, Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife. Our animal compounds comply with the Colorado Division of Wildlife rules and regulations. We are currently seeking other accreditation’s.
Prairie Wind is not open to the public at this time.
